Equipping Individuals and Organizations with the Tools to
Become Powerful Advocates in Washington, D.C.
The National H.I.R.E. Network is pleased to announce the launch of the National Reentry Advocacy Project, which will advocate on the federal level to promote model policies to reduce employment and education barriers facing individuals with criminal histories. H.I.R.E. will train individuals directly affected and advocates that work in various aspects of reentry -- workforce development, criminal justice policy, treatment, education and other social services -- on how to participate and influence the federal legislative process.
Individuals and organizations with first-hand knowledge of the issues affecting people with criminal records should be involved in the federal legislative process, because they possess an intimate understanding of the issues. They must be equipped with the tools needed to shape important federal policies affecting people with criminal histories.
In conjunction with this project, H.I.R.E. will host a series of on-line trainings, congressional events and workshops. The first kick-off training event was held on March 7, 2008:

The overall goal is to empower and encourage everyday people to participate in the federal legislative process. We must work hard to educate our elected officials about the important issues facing people with criminal records. We look forward to working with you on this project!
